Grimwyrd: Heated Fight

heated fight

Last time! The blue arrow; Today’s adventure, the little green arrow

[Recharged after two weeks off, we dither a bit on getting back into the game, but all are here excluding Adolph. Its safe to assume he’s in control of the GM at this point unless stated otherwise.]

Ken (GM) The black sands of Gorgoth dance on the wind, mingling with the wreckage of the village around you. Charred corpses lie bloated with rot, a midden heap smolders from alchemical embers, and a heated argument just came to its peak.

The party has skirted the border of the forbidden lands until this day, where the signs of smoke and the stench of death led them to the hilltop wreckage. Signs of violence suggest elves fell victim to some dark workings here, and the trail leads further West.

12:34 Ken (GM): [I believe the last thing running was the discussion on if it was worth it to pursue the trail. Falkirk having some heated words in elvish with Syviis]

12:35 (GM to Fiss): You had found the mounts of the elven scouting party dead here, with some weird undead crawling out of the heap. Falkirk killed it with an alchemical firebomb. Signs of the trail indicate people were taken live, yesterday, marched West

12:36 Gandalf G.: (pulling up logs, it’s been 2 weeks)

12:37 Ken (GM): [no worries G]

Gray can’t understand the elvish, so instead examines the trail. The savage brute kneeling, scenting the air as his fingers brush the dark sands, lifting and smelling. Trying to judge how many left here. It’s a silent way of showing interest in following the trail, the scorned mercenary not easy about leaving people to their fate.

[AS always, Gray has easy to read, demonstrating his intent in his actions – Ken]

12:37 (GM to Gray): the first things you smell are blood and the musk of Beastmen. Very memorable scents. Perception/Tracking for further details

Syviis Adjeon is trying not to show much emotion at the whole scene, but instead focuses her gaze routinely from looking through the pyres for more clues, and to the East where the captives must have been marched from

Suðri Skornbrekker takes a sip, the dust, fire, and ugliness of the situation has made him thirsty.

12:38 (GM to Fiss): The village is in ruins; teepees and tents in disarray, burned or chopped to bits. Thick dark-wooded arrows stick out of the one standing building, their fletching a bright whitedownload.jpg

12:39 (From Syviis Adjeon): I’ll grab a few of the intact arrows, partially for evidence, partially imagining vengeance

12:39 (GM to Fiss): Plenty of them intact, they come free of the wood with Iron barbed heads. Ugly things. you gather 6

12:39 Falkirk: “So. We’re to head West and continue, seems the elf is in furious agreement. Is there anyone who wants different?”

12:41 Bomrek: “I’m of the disposition to say these Elves need some help, wizard.” Bomrek says, swigging some sharp liquor and covering his nose form the stench of the flames

12:41 Bomrek: “Someone took them from this village, slavers likely. Might be a reward for their release? Or some fine loot to pick up?”

12:41 Falkirk: “Aye, no doubt of it. As are all the free peoples North of this hell hole.”

Falkirk prods the ground with his staff

12:42 Falkirk: “And we’re not going to help them by chasing every little raiding party we meet.”

12:42 Suðri Skornbrekker: “I’m in favour of following them at some distance; they know the area, so we will learn about passable routes and possible settlements.”

12:42 Suðri Skornbrekker: “I’m not eager either, though”

12:42 Gray:rolling 3d6(4+6+2)=12 vs tracking

12:42 (From Gray): Not a great roll, but should be okay if there are no penalties

12:42 (GM to Gray): Definitely Beastmen, and definitely some more scents much like Syviis; elves likely. No others though. No horses taken on the path… they’re likely on foot

Gray frowns, rising to his feet and speaking in that rough, deep voice. “No mounts, no pack animals. Beastmen and elves… We could catch them.” His hands flex. “We should catch them.”

Syviis Adjeon shouts something at Falkirk, but it seems more out of frustration than anger at him. [OOC: She says: “Regardless of our path, we must choose and be decisive. There are a thousand evils here. If not one, then another…Choose the path and I will follow, but CHOOSE before my bow compels me!]

Gray looks to the smoldering, to the fresh signs of violence. “They haven’t gotten far. We chase now and we could have them soon.”

Falkirk sighs deeply, massaging his temples under his pulled-up hood and plague mask “It seems I’m outvoted. You’d be dead by dawn if I left you to chase your phantoms alone.”

Suðri Skornbrekker nods, and mounts his horse.

Bomrek follows suit, moving his own plague mask aside to drink from his flask, muttering about “fool elves”

[so to the West with you all then, in pursuit of the trail?]

12:49 Falkirk: YUP

Gray nods to the doctor and rolls his shoulders, limbering up then waiting a moment for the others to prepare before he starts to follow the trail, leading them and moving as quickly as conditions allow. Some savage hound…

12:49 Ken (GM): [alrighty then!] [moving map magic!]

Ken (GM) The Beastman trail leads West, deeper into the craggy rocky hills. Gray has little trouble tracking it, and points out bloody smears and prints left in the black dusty earth. The path winds further into the hills, twisting this way and that. The hills break away here and there, jagged edges and sharp defiles. Some dead trees cling here, scrubby grasses. Thorny bushes.

As the heat of noon approaches the baking waves of boiled air are reflected of the walls of the canyons. The sun seems intent to roast you, through even the gray skies of Gorgoth.

12:53 Falkirk: it’s hiiiiiiiiiiiiiigh noon

12:53 Ken (GM): lol , no overwatch, too distractingly awesome

Ken (GM) Gray leads you all deeper in, and the trail widens to broad shallow cliffs of stone, with sandy floors. Gray gold dust mixing in with the black of the hillsides. Then, as he rounds another bend, he brings you all up short. He’s seen something

12:55 (GM to Gray): Specifically, round the bend theres a hill wall ahead, with a big gaping door in it

12:55 Ken (GM): [map change!]

not petra.jpg

Gray slows occasionally, watching for trouble and some kind of trap while the beast hunts. The heat a distraction, but one he resists. Waiting for the others to join, he calls to them. “Door ahead. This is where they were going, I think.”

Syviis Adjeon whispers something decidedly not nice sounding to herself. “Then this is where they will be buried.”

Suðri Skornbrekker briefly takes off his helmet to wipe the sweat from his forehead.

Ken (GM) Ahead, the dead scenery is broken by a lush wall of green, growing from pools of water in front of the doorway. Bloodroot grows here and there as well, it’s winding red limbs seeking purchase in the water

Suðri Skornbrekker exhales, and looks around, not very pleased with the landscape, nor the weather. He would much prefer to wait until the sun is no longer as high up in the sky before proceeding with any battle.

Ken (GM) The gaping hole in the far wall of the hill is buttressed with slabs of heavy stone. Heaps of rubble stand out stark in the light, as if scraped from the doorway recently. Fallen stone here and there suggests the door once was flanked by high pillars, but they have broken to stumps

Suðri Skornbrekker puts his helmet back on and shadows his eyes from the sun to take a closer look at the site, and the pillars. He wonders what might once have stood here, but there is too little left of the ruins to tell.

1:00 Syviis Adjeon: Tactics roll for Syviis regarding the time/location for battle?

1:00 Ken (GM): [sure!]

1:01 Syviis Adjeon: Target is 10
rolling {3d6}<10{(1+1+5)}=3 Successes
Yay!
*though I need to un-fuck that target thing

1:03 (GM to Suðri Skornbrekker): You notice the lines of ancient architecture here; some simple geometry. Definitely not dwarven, but certainly old and poorly kept. There is definitely something beyond that doorway. Its reinforced well enough to support a large structure beyond.

Gray nods to the elf without understanding her words as he stands by quietly, considering the lush area and turning his attention to it. “Might be water here. There’s danger. They will have a lookout that will spot us if we come closer.”

1:03 (GM to Fiss): Its bright and clear; get out of the sun and into cover! Otherwise, approach with stealth

Syviis Adjeon calms down, less reckless parts of her mind working again, and begins hunting for lookouts and adequate cover

1:05 Ken (GM): [Perception rolls! the lot of you then!]

1:05 Syviis Adjeon:rolling 3d6(2+6+5)=13

Falkirk remains back in the canyon entrance, quietly looking around but giving little away.

1:05 Gray:rolling 3d6(2+4+4)=10 vs PER 14(Low Light Vision and Discriminatory Scent )

1:06 Bomrek:rolling 3d6(1+5+1)=7

Suðri Skornbrekker might take a penalty for having been ogling the ruins 10v12

Suðri Skornbrekker definitely wants to go inside now though, not just to get away from the heat but to see what it looks like in there.

1:07 Falkirk: perception 5v10
nice desu

Bomrek You all look about, wary of enemies, and remain still and hidden back among the rocks.

Ken (GM) Each of you easily notices movement up ahead, as a figure comes out of the dark mouth of the doorway! An orc, pushing a wheelbarrow, with a body in it!

You all see him clearly outlined in the sun; A burly green skinned creature with a bow slung on his back made of horn and wood. He pushes the rickety cart with some distain, huffing loudly, and he blinks away the sun as he emerges from the dark tunnel. The body on the cart is pale, but with bloody red hands and face. It is limp and dead, bouncing along for the ride

1:10 Ken (GM): [reactions? Actions?]1489899400439.jpg
[subtractions?]
[redactions?]

Suðri Skornbrekker observes quietly, but makes sure to have his musket ready and aimed. He doesn’t plan to shoot and alert the enemy, though, which would be visible in his reluctant body language.

1:11 Falkirk: [frog fractions]

1:11 Ken (GM): lol

Falkirk holds in place, quietly watching

1:11 Syviis Adjeon: She’s still riding her tactical mind, wanting to watch where this orc is going, possibly so we can learn where the body dump is, and partially so we can ambush the orc further from the doorway

Suðri Skornbrekker glances at Syviis to make sure she doesn’t cry out or anything.

Syviis just nods calmly at Skombrekker, still and calm

1:11 Ken (GM): [mildly adjusting the party on the map based on ‘hide and peek’]

Bomrek cocks the hammers on his big gun, as quietly as possible

Suðri Skornbrekker nods back and returns his attention to the orc.

1:14 Syviis Adjeon: nodding intensifies

[10 nods this session, alone. It sure intensifies all righty –Ken]

Gray scowls, hesitating a moment and wanting to move into action. He watches the savage and frowns, hands flexing. “Don’t let him see us yet. What do we do now?”

Ken (GM) the Ork rubs his eyes with one hand and pushes the cart with his other, awkwardly. He takes no attention of you all, and continues on his way down the hillside to the BloodRoot at the water

1:15 Falkirk: “This detour is your bed. I’ll allow you all to do the sleeping.” me says, quietly from under his hood
[me says
10/10 roll20 skills]

1:16 Suðri Skornbrekker: “If we want to take him out, it would be better to do so quietly, and out of sight from the entrance. Let’s observe and see where he goes,” the dwarf whispers.

Ken (GM) The orc upturns the corpse from the cart, dumping it unceremoniously into the red bush and the pond it perches at. He then begins unfastening his pants, and turns around to squat down by the red bush, and does something indescribable…

…right onto the dead elf

Gray speaks in that low voice. “I think I’ve seen enough.”

oh its on.PNG

1:17 Syviis Adjeon: eye twitches, hand reaches for bow

Gray moves closer, staying quiet and out of the line of fire from the others.

Falkirk gently sighs. His eyes invisibly roll.

1:18 Ken (GM): [gray! Stealth!]

1:18 Suðri Skornbrekker: “Why would they pollute their own water source so?”, Suðri whispers with some disgust.

1:18 Syviis Adjeon: Syviis will also stealthily/approach

1:19 Ken (GM): [the rocks on the map here are tall, and provide some cover on your approach]

1:19 Gray:rolling 3d6(1+4+3)=8 vs Stealth 10

1:19 Syviis Adjeon:rolling 3d6(2+3+3)=8 vs Stealth 13

1:19 Joush M.: suecess by 2 for Gray on being a sneeky git

Suðri Skornbrekker quietly and carefully gets off his horse, sticks his bardiche into the sand, and aims at the orc in case something goes awry.

1:19 Ken (GM): [put yourselves within 20 yards gray and Syviis.]

Falkirk quietly dismounts, seemingly more concerned with ensuring he has a good view than preparing for an ambush.

1:20 Joush M.: That good? That rock give any cover?

1:20 Ken (GM): [yep that rock covers you both!]

Ken (GM) The orc grunts, and seems to take his time. He hums a small tune to himself

1:22 Ken (GM): [he does not seem to have noticed anything]

1:22 Fiss: You can maintain an Aim while moving 1 hex, right?

1:22 Ken (GM): yus

1:23 Fiss: Is the beam and fallen stone high enough for some cover?

1:23 Ken (GM): [its about 3 feet tall, so you could crouch behind it nicely. Its fallen into a boggy bit of water though. scummy]

1:25 Fiss: 2nd path clear? Or too much bog?

1:25 Ken (GM): yes, clearer, the stone is clear footing. Just open! you might be spotted

1:26 Fiss: Well, either way, shit’s about to go down. I suppose.

Syviis Adjeon cocks an arrow and starts aiming, looking to her team for the start of the attack

Ken (GM) the orc finishes defiling the pond, and he cleans himself a bit

1:28 Falkirk: ._.

1:28 Ken (GM): lol

Ken (GM) From within the door, you hear a guttural voice call out in some rough language!

Falkirk’s ears perk up

1:29 (GM to Falkirk): Old Gorgoth “Stop shitting! get back to work! Slaves need blood!”

Suðri Skornbrekker maintains the aim on the orc, but glances at the door briefly.

1:30 Suðri Skornbrekker: “What’s he say, Doctor?”, he whispers to Falkirk.

Ken (GM) the orc answers, short and curt

1:30 (GM to Falkirk): “Fuck you; I shit, slaves eat shit”

Gray waits, not moving yet at that. Waiting a moment while he holds the sword at the ready and stays out of sight.

Falkirk ‘s ears un-perk, he doesn’t seem concerned.

Ken (GM) the orc finishes up, and stands, reaffixing his pants. He steps into the bushes, and snaps off some stalks of red bush, heaping them in the wheelbarrow

1:32 Syviis Adjeon: The elf looks REALLY ready

1:33 Ken (GM):rolling 3d6(4+2+6)=12 vs Orc PER

Ken (GM) The orc continues working, completely oblivious to you all

Gray leaves cover to try and close in, to try and get near enough to take out the orc quick and quiet before they get seen. Risking doing so in view of the door.

1:33 Ken (GM): [cool! Stealth check!]

Ken (GM) the soft sand masks your feet bashing into the earth, as you pounce for the kill

1:35 Gray:rolling 3d6(6+2+1)=9 vs Stealth 10

Syviis Adjeon waits until Gray is ready to attack, and will let loose an arrow just prior to his ambush!

1:36 Ken (GM): The orc remains distracted on your approach!
Syviis! your long-aimed shot!

1:37 Syviis Adjeon: What’s the aim bonus?

Gray is surprisingly quiet for such a beast, closing, ready to pounce. Of course, the elf might beat him to the shot.

1:37 Ken (GM): with your bow, 3 +1 for long aim, -4 for distance!
so skill +0

Falkirk leans on his staff watching, in the same way one might watch people walking down the street through a window

quietly

1:42 Fiss: aww yus

1:43 Ken (GM): Bomrek takes the opprotunity to shuffle up with the bag of guns *muffled clanking*

Gray frees the blade as quietly as he can and looks past the orc into the door, the beast motioning the others up to join him as he makes sure of the monster’s death.

1:43 Syviis Adjeon: slides up along the rocks for cover, new arrow ready

Suðri Skornbrekker grabs two additional muskets and does the likewise

Falkirk slowly begins to stride over

Suðri Skornbrekker plants his bardiche in the sand and aims at the entrance

Ken (GM) Nothing belies your presence; no movement from the door, no sounds from inside. All is quiet

1:46 Joush M.:[Can I move up to the side of the doorway and look inside?]

1:47 Ken (GM): ya, the North side has a spot you could cover yourself

1:47 (GM to Gray): You smell the stench of blood and shit, and Beastmen all over. Orcs, and those goatlike ones? Also a sickly sweet smell. Like syrup.

Gray swallows a thick growl, forcing himself to be silent and looking to the elf, nodding to her as she stays silently nearby. Trusting the others to cover him.

Syviis Adjeon covers Gray as he moves, stealthy and focused

1:47 (GM to Gray): Perception please!

1:48 Gray:rolling 3d6(3+2+4)=9

1:48 Ken (GM): Bomrek shuffles, hunched low, jangling as quietly as possible

Gray expects the day to end in gunfire and screams. He wants to know where the hostages are first, though.

1:49 (GM to Gray): You can make out faraway talking inside, the crackle of a fire, and other indistinct sounds from the dark ahead

Suðri Skornbrekker shuffles along

1:49 (GM to Gray): Peering into the darkness, you see a wood bridge directly ahead, past the rough cut hallway at the door. The span ends at a door set in the wall ahead.

Suðri Skornbrekker whispers to the dwarf and the elf: “They were waiting for him to return. Someone is going to come looking for him, we should wait for him—or them.”

Syviis Adjeon nods in agreement

Gray motions the others forward, drawing them in when he doesn’t see any sentries or threats at the mouth of the tunnel. “There’s a bridge. Voices inside. A door. We could be days getting them out if we don’t get inside that door and across that bridge before they know we are here.”

Falkirk shuffles up behind a pillar

1:51 (GM to Falkirk): The stench of the bog here hits you; this is not their water supply 😛 The shattered remains of a beautiful statue lie in the water below. Possibly elven?

Falkirk frowns at the water, moving into a crouch

1:52 (From Falkirk): I’d like to try to identify it from hered4637ab93c2aca93d02b0e3fedee9e01.jpg

1:53 Bomrek: “Go in quiet, run to the door if we’re spotted? Kill anything in the way?” He grins

1:53 Syviis Adjeon: she considers this and allows a bit of the reckless anger creep back into her mind and nods with just a hint of a smile

Gray nods in agreement to Bomrek. “Silent until we get made, then hard and fast and bloody.”

Suðri Skornbrekker hesitates, but grabs his muskets and reluctantly moves forward.

1:53 (GM to Falkirk): Not elven, but beautiful. Thin features…and horns. Like a fawn.

Falkirk pokes his long staff into the water, prodding at something as he frowns

1:54 (GM to Falkirk): Definitely demonic or Fae. But odd. Shes no creature you recall right away. Shes oddly lovely. Maybe a Queen or some other royal?

Gray looks to Falkirk, almost asking him if he’s with them, but the doctor has earned not being asked questions like that. Instead, the towering Beastmen moves forward in that loping crouch, staying stealthy and quite as he slips in the entrance and starts forward to the steel door, expecting it to open any moment.

1:54 Syviis Adjeon: The elf moves up into the archway, ready, quiet, and glances once more at the dead in the pond

1:55 Ken (GM): [STEALTH! and marching order!]

1:55 Joush M.: Ah.. damn.

1:55 Ken (GM): lol, not all is lost yet

1:55 P.P. A.: What’s the default for Stealth?

Falkirk rolls a sleeve up and plunges it into the murky depths

1:56 (From Falkirk): I’m grabbing it

1:56 Joush M.: Hopefully they roll badly, with the door in the way and all

1:56 Syviis Adjeon: Elf is good with a beat by 4, will cover whoever decides to take point

1:56 (GM to Falkirk): She seems to have been grasping a long spear. The metal shines dully under the filthy water

1:56 (From Falkirk): A full sized spear or a statue sized spear?

1:56 Syviis Adjeon: Though she is also curious to see what Falkirk is doing all of a sudden

1:56 Falkirk: wizard stuff :3

1:57 (GM to Falkirk): One and the same. Its a longspear (reach 2,3)

1:57 (From Falkirk): Oh it’s a big statue? Okay, I’ll take the spear.

1:57 Fiss:  http://imgur.com/fR0iZ1a fR0iZ1a.png

1:58 P.P. A.: >Defaults: DX-5 or IQ-5.

Ken (GM) Falkirk reaches into the cesspool below, and pulls out a gleaming silvery spear of beautiful make. The head shines when it is struck by the sun, shining like a small twinkling star.

Suðri Skornbrekker isn’t berry good at stealth

1:59 Fiss: [IS GOOD AT STEALTH…SHOOT ENEMY EARS AND EYES, THEY SEE AND HEAR NOTHING!]

Suðri Skornbrekker whispers: “My armour is noisy. You go ahead, I’ll stay behind and give cover fire.”

Suðri Skornbrekker sticks his bardiche into the ground and aims at the door, should anything come out of it.

2:00 Joush M.: [There’s no witnesses if everyone that witnessed anything is dead]

2:00 Syviis Adjeon: deliberately takes it slow and careful, looking for trip lines, noisy floor bits, etc

2:01 (GM to Falkirk): You feel a magic in that spear. An oooold magic. Quiet and cold though. Asleep

Falkirk frowns, completely distracted from the business of infiltration by his latest discovery. He turns the spear sideways, examining the shaft and point for clues as to its origins.

2:03 Ken (GM): right; Syviis and Gray plunge into the darkness
while Bomrek and Suðri cover them
and Falkirk wonders

Gray advances with the elf, heading for the door. Falkirk’s discovery missed by the Beastmen.

Ken (GM) AS you plunge into the depths, your eyes adjust, and the cavern spreads out around you [reveals a bunch of map to the players]

2:04 Syviis Adjeon: Oooooooh! Is this a sniper bridge that the elf archer finds herself on?

Ken (GM) the orcs below the bridge muck about in their camp, but as you trundle from the stone to the bridge, one turns to look up at the newcomers

Ken (GM) He says “Huh?!” loudlyWot+da+zog+_a725f8f61d5cf2e9237669ed122c881f.png

2:10 Ken (GM): there was poop involved

2:10 Gandalf G.: I’m doing my own thing
you guys have fun in the rape-and-poop cave

2:10 Fiss: I’ve seen enough Hentai to know where this is going…

2:12 Adolf S.: [Oh man, this is a spooky looking map.]

2:13 Ken (GM): Bridge is up about 3-4 yards?

2:13 Joush M.: Ahh… a little high to jump down then.

Ken (GM) A campfire lights the cavern, as BloodRoot grows on the waters edge. Several Beastmen go about their business, one looking up at you dumbly. Youre perched on a wooden bridge spanning the cavern, the entrance behind you, a large metal bound door ahead, and a short ramp down the side to the camp below.

Gray advances on the bridge, meeting the one foe’s eyes in challenge and hoping a few more seconds before he raises the alarm.

Ken (GM) Blood trails lead obviously to the big wood and metal door on the wall

2:14 Ken (GM): BOMREK!

2:14 Bomrek: (“Kill’m all and let the all-father sort’m out”)
Right, I’m not sure enough of what’s happening as of yet. This was a stealth op gone loud, basically? Are the enemy basically surprised to see us, or…?

2:16 P.P. A.: We stealthily killed an orc outside of the hideout, and now wanted to infiltrate it silently to get across the bridge and behind the door we could see from the entrance

What we couldn’t see from the entrance was that below the bridge was teeming with orcs

2:16 Ken (GM): yup, thats what happened, Gray just ran in all thumpy like

2:16 Bomrek: Hm. So, if they see we’re here, should we just go loud? Or do we still want to try to salvage the stealth aspect of this?

2:17 Joush M.: Might as well start shooting. That orc is going to tell someone

2:17 Fiss: I think we’re done with stealth…we get one, maybe two more seconds of “huh?”

2:17 Bomrek: Mmm. Well, Bomrek just moves forward then for now. Moot point

2:17 Ken (GM): [Please note you also have the sack o gun and such]

2:17 Bomrek: Is this some sort of barrier I’m seeing infront of me- Oh, neato.

2:18 Ken (GM): tunnel entrance

2:18 Bomrek: Oooh.. Okay uh, well I’ll just move forward then.
Assuming I can drag the gun bag that far, anyway.

2:22 Falkirk: I’d like a check of some kind to examine this spear
and a concentrate manouver

2:23 (GM to Falkirk): Hidden lore, Spirit lore, or Occult, your choice

2:23 (From Falkirk): Occultism 7v11

2:25 (GM to Falkirk): The cult-like worshippers of Gorgoth root their worship in the reverence of the mighty demons. While you can list the dozens of greater beings and patrons, the name of whoever this depicts escapes you. However, there are old tales of worshippers who revered the mighty spirits of the fae instead. They worshipped guile and the hunt. This may have been something involved in that. The imagery fits at least. Otherwise. this is a fine quality spear, a bit heavy as its made of metal, and it certainly magical to the touch.

2:25 Ken (GM): SKORNBREKKER!

Suðri Skornbrekker grumbles into his beard, grabs two muskets on the ground, and advances

2:26 Ken (GM): gruff gruff gurss
move on up!
top of the round! [adds a bunch of Orcs and Ibixians to the initative count]

Ken (GM) The clamor of Beastmen rises to a din, as they hoot their war-cries and grab their weapons!

2:27 Ken (GM): GRAY!

Gray heads for the path down to the tunnel, the beast looking to block it. If they can control that choke-point the gunners and archers should be able to rain hell from the bridge.. he hopes, at least. “Grayhold and victory!”

2:28 Ken (GM): you scramble down the wooden planks, they creak and groan under your weight, and you’re on the ground with Orcs and Ibixians alike 😀
BOMREK!

2:29 Bomrek: Ah, already? Forward! Also, is my bag of guns slowly deteriorating here or is that somethin’ else

2:29 Ken (GM): lol, its leather, designed to be a bit beat up
the cavern reveals itself below you, orks and goatmen alike

THE BAD GUYS!

2:30 Bomrek: Untermensch. Time to solve this problem, with finality.

2:31 Ken (GM): The big guy who spotted gray barrels under the bridge, diving for him in a wild tackle!
rolling 3d6(6+1+2)=9
Gray! Will you defend?

2:32 P.P. A.: Gray should have stood a bit higher up that path

2:32 Ken (GM): 😛

Gray settles that huge shield and readies to fight them off as he’s charged by the foes at the base of the steps.

2:32 Gray: rolling 3d6(2+5+1)=8 Block!

2:32 Joush M.: That blocks…?

2:32 Ken (GM): wham! the mighty orc slams into your shield!
you deflect his charge!
rolling 3d6(4+3+4)=11 vs DX to recover
He doesn’t fall on his ass! [flying tackle attempt, calls for a DX recovery]

Gray gives half a step then shoves back with the shield as the smaller Beastmen swarm him. Trusting the others to support him from the bridge.

One goatman runs up to the door, barking words into the room beyond
the other tucks under the bridge

2:33 Bomrek: Looks like one Orc’s trying to escape to the north. How DARE he try to make it back to his family. Somebody kill’m.

2:33 Ken (GM): SYVIIS!

2:34 Syviis Adjeon: The elf takes a step and tries to pin the orkenstein’s vitals with a lightning arrow
~3 ish hexes away? 5?

2:35 Ken (GM): youve got height on him, so its a -2 for distance

2:36 Syviis Adjeon: -2 net, target is 13 with my Heroic Archer shit

Yus. Vital’ed!
(unless he does somethign)

2:37 Ken (GM): (dont forget, you always add ACC to a shot, so another +3)
but yay! a hit!

2:37 Ken (GM): he all out attacked though, so no defense!

[Syviis’ innate attack is complicated at this point, for nearly no reason, believe me –Ken]

Lightning_Arrow_(Use_Side_View).png

2:39 Syviis Adjeon: Ah, fair enough, 4 then for the first die
Thought the “walk up and charge” counted

2:40 Ken (GM): BUT minutiae aside, the arrow sinks into his back, strikes something important through his 1dr leather armor
rolling 3d6(1+4+5)=10 vs HT Major Wound
he’s still standing, but he’s staggered
sorry, charging up takes a full round; my bad I missed that

2:41 Syviis Adjeon: Either way, that dude ain’t happy

2:42 Joush M.: My spleen! I’m not supposed to get arrows in it!

2:42 Fiss: My spleen is allergic to arrows too. and bullets.

2:42 Ken (GM): yeah, hes fucked up FALKIRK

Falkirk puts the spear down atop the crumbled pillar, making a note to examine it more once this ‘fighting for your life’ business is done, before heading unhurried into the cave.

2:43 Ken (GM): gonna be a jerk GM and nudge you down one, thats a hillside
SKORNBREKKER!

Suðri Skornbrekker advances

2:44 P.P. A.: Is there time to put one of the muskets on the bridge’s railing (looks like it has one) to start taking aim?

2:44 Ken (GM): not enough for an aim this turn, sorry

2:45 P.P. A.: all right, then that’s it

2:45 Ken (GM): but thats a good position to prop up gunnery!
GRAY!
You’re swarmed!

Gray tries to finish the one that the elf’s arrow staggered and stunned.

2:45 Gray:rolling 3d6(6+2+2)=10 vs 16 Sword

2:46 Ken (GM): oh fuck

Ken (GM) You brandish the ogre-sword and hew a mighty chop down into the orc. He is in twain

Gray uses a massive blade, the heavy Ogre sword swung with brutal power as he slashes hard enough to claim one of the Orc’s limbs and cast the body aside with a spray of blood. No battle cry, this time Gray roars like some savage animal.

2:48 Ken (GM): The orcs are agog23885510979_4510ff9467_b.jpg

BOMREK!

2:48 Bomrek: ~Ore wa~, T_T
If I step one step to the south west, would I be able to get a shot on one of those orcs around Suðri? without hitting Suðri?

2:48 Ken (GM): yus; the walls are weird, but yes. Poor Suðris ears

2:49 Bomrek: Righto. I take that step- bah, he should be used to it by now. Builds character. – and take a shot at that orc, while yelling “Nökor nanoth nist råsh! [Never fear, death is here!]” which is basically a mocking dwarven battle cry, assurances that the fear will stop after they’re dead, basically.
Wassa’ penalty to hit?

2:50 Ken (GM): -3 for distance only

2:50 Bomrek: Alright, just a general shot to the torso then.
rolling 3d6(3+1+5)=9

2:51 P.P. A.: pls don’t shoot me ;_; oh wait, that was the damage, not the roll nvm

2:52 Ken (GM): LOL so much murder. the orc takes it in the back and dies

2:52 Bomrek: I imagine that actual guardsmen like Bomrek would probably make fun of comparatively simple and less important militiamen, similar to how a marine might make fun of a national guardsman.

2:52 Ken (GM): FALKIRK!

2:52 Joush M.: Yay! Tactics work!

2:52 (GM to Fiss): I had your intitiative fucked up with falkirks 😛

Falkirk continues to jog towards the cave

2:53 Ken (GM): keeping a distance?

2:53 Joush M.: Falkirk, coming to update us on the awesome spear he found

2:53 (From Syviis Adjeon): yep. lol. AHh well

2:53 Bomrek: It belongs in a museum

2:53 Falkirk: nah

2:53 Ken (GM): IN A MUSEUM

2:53 Falkirk: just unhurried

2:53 Ken (GM): Syviis!

Gray! do you defend?

2:56 Gray:rolling 3d6(5+1+3)=9

2:56 Joush M.: Block!

2:56 Ken (GM): woot

Gray turns on the one, glad to avoid being flanked by the way the others have fallen. He’d have given this one his back without the support of the ones on the bridge.

2:57 Ken (GM): The wily beastman under the bridge stays there, wary of gunfire now.

The other shoves his way up and into the doorway, bellowing madly in his tongue

2:58 (GM to Falkirk): “Madness! Intruders! In the temple!” you faintly make out the Old Gorgoth

2:58 (From Falkirk): gotcha

2:58 Bomrek: Probably should’ve shot that one. Oh well.

2:59 Ken (GM): SYVIIS!

2:59 Syviis Adjeon: Can she shoot past Gray and Mr Beasty?

Ken (GM) from within, you hear muted shouts for help in a foreign tongue

3:05 Bomrek: Yes

3:06 (GM to Fiss): theyre elves, yelling in elvish, for help

3:06 P.P. A.: There’s doors to the side, maybe these are cells (for elves)

Syviis Adjeon shouts excitedly something back

3:06 Syviis Adjeon: “We’re coming! Hold on!”

3:09 Falkirk: oh ok

3:11 Ken (GM): yeah, -2 for distance

Suðri Skornbrekker grabs another one of the light muskets, and takes a single step north to shoot at the fleeing enemy

3:18 P.P. A.: again -4?

3:18 Ken (GM): -2 total

Suðri Skornbrekker fires! 14v12

Suðri Skornbrekker curses in dwarven!

3:19 Ken (GM): those poor muskets
so much abuse. Crack, boom, no target…

GUHREEEEY

Gray moves to the bridge, ready to block the path up onto it and foes coming from that long hallway with the doors. The sounds are muted, sharp by the repeated thundercracks and blast of flame and smoke, but he shakes off the ringing and readies himself for what might come next.

3:21 Ken (GM): BOOOMREK

3:22 Bomrek: Bomrek swings his musket out of the way as Suðri jumps to his position. He sees him miss, curses in Dwarvish, and makes a snap shot at the orc.
Distance penalty?

3:23 Ken (GM): -3 (the 5 to 7 yard penalty)

3:24 Bomrek: Hm. What would be the penalty to shoot this one in the legs?

Nope, thassa’ miss with the distance.

3:26 Ken (GM): The goatman squeezes through the door above, and the mad yelling continues

3:26 (GM to Falkirk): “Rally you whelps! form up!”

3:26 Bomrek: “Blast!” Bomrek screams in common. “Gray, check those cells! Maybe if we get all of the slaves out, we can just bombard the cave mouth closed and let starvation do our jobs for us.”

3:33 P.P. A.: Hm How long do these small muskets take to reload

3:34 Bomrek: 20 – 40 seconds is standard if I recall.

3:34 Ken (GM): roughly a minute?

3:34 Bomrek: Was readin’ low tech the other day on the shitter.

3:34 Ken (GM): ah yeah, you guys made paper rounds

3:34 Joush M.: IIRC, 20 seconds with -5 seconds with Quick Draw?

3:34 Bomrek: In the case of paper rounds it reduces default time by half
My musket goes from 40 seconds per barrel, to 20 seconds per barrel.

3:35 P.P. A.: So that’s 20 rounds or so…

3:35 Ken (GM): ya

3:35 P.P. A.: I kinda doubt that’s worth it.

3:35 Gandalf G.: 20 second loading is p. impressive tbh

3:35 Bomrek: Yup. I’ll take that bet, personally. Especially because my musket doubles as a good ass spear.

3:35 Gandalf G.: then again muskets are easy, my point of reference is rifles

3:35 Bomrek: It’s not bad, yeah. Keep in mind standard rounds per minute for the last time muskets were relevant was like…

3:35 Gandalf G.: where you need to ram that shit like a ginger stepchild

3:35 Bomrek: 3 – 4 rounds per minute, for well drilled soldiers.

3:35 P.P. A.: is this space that looks broken safe to stand on?

3:36 Bomrek: That’s assuming you fire immediately after loading.

3:36 Ken (GM): yeah, the bridge is roughly secure. but good eye

3:36 P.P. A.: mkay

Suðri Skornbrekker treads carefully to make sure this spot is good

Suðri Skornbrekker takes aim at the door with his main musket.

Suðri Skornbrekker ends his turn.

3:36 Ken (GM): kk

3:37 Suðri Skornbrekker: “Would be nice if we could free everyone and head out in time to aim our cannons at the entrance.”

Bottom of round, the sounds of the Beastmen coalesces into a chant
“HUH! HUH! HUH!” barks from many mouths behind the door

GRAY!

Gray frowns at the chanting and looks to the far door they passed though, looking to the elf then down the hall with its many doors. He goes to the near door and tries to open it.

3:38 Ken (GM): There is a heavy bar that lifts from your side
the door opens easily though

3:38 Bomrek: “Aye I agree Suðri. Tactical retreat might be a wise decision, soon.” he says around a mouth full off torn paper as he tamps down his powder.

3:39 Ken (GM): Inside is a bruised and beaten elf. He’s clad in green and browns, and seems quite bloodied. His mouth and hands are stained red

3:40 Bomrek: I just realized how not-great of an idea uh a beastman being first contact is

3:53 Ken (GM): Graaay! The elf cowers at the sight of you1

3:53 P.P. A.: I find that I’m much more eager to kill people here in GURPS because the line between life and death is so much thinner
than in, say, Pathfinder

3:54 Bomrek: ‘Course. That’s why GURPS is supreme.

3:54 P.P. A.: Indeed

3:54 Ken (GM): everyone is mortal

Gray calls to the man. “Free the others! Now!” Before he turns to hurry back to the bridge, to keep the Gnolls from charging the others.

3:55 Bomrek: Lets hope he speaks common.

Ken (GM) the elf seems to take notice of your tone

3:55 P.P. A.: It really gives you a sense for your character’s mortality, and “him or me” situations

3:59 P.P. A.: At least I finally hit something

3:59 Fiss: Doooooom!

3:59 Ken (GM): and elves coming out of the woodwork!

3:59 Bomrek: Maybe once we escape with the elves, we can sell them as slaves. Recoup our expense.

3:59 Fiss: That’s what happens when you don’t pressure-treat the base boards

3:59 Ken (GM): 4 xp for everyone!

4:00 P.P. A.: Nah, we’ll just tell them to retell their experiences in manga form and then sell those

4:00 Bomrek: Watashi no namae wa hotdoggu dess

4:00 P.P. A.: Printing press invented yet?

4:01 Fiss: Elf-manga: With 38% more Legolas Yaoi than a LOTR con

4:02 Bomrek: That dude though, really wonder if we ought to be trying to capture those folk. Sort of hard to do, is the issue.

4:02 Joush M.: Alive’s harder then dead in GURPS

4:02 P.P. A.: On the other hand, it doesn’t seem like they are big wigs or part of a greater scheme. Just outlaws, bandits

4:03 Bomrek: You’d think they’d know something though. Commanders, probably appointed by some higher structure.
I’ve gotta go get ready. Might pop back in a bit. AFK for now.

4:03 Fiss: Should be able to find evidence of a larger slave ring here if there is one. If not…then yeah.

4:03 P.P. A.: That guy definitely had a personality and a story behind him from the way Ken described him, but he might not have been important in any greater scheme of things, just a local big man

4:03 Fiss: Have a good one folks!

4:03 P.P. A.: See you

4:04 Joush M.: Take care!
